Users will have the option to remain on the current experience until October 17, 2016, at which point all users will be automatically updated to the new experience. Google Hangouts is available on, as a Chrome extension, and as a Windows app. You can use this free service for instant messaging, video chat, SMS and more. Existing users of the Chrome extension will be able to opt into the new experience on August 31, 2016, which has functional parity with the current experience. Hangouts is a communication platform developed by Google.
